Here at Paint Denver, we tackle all kinds of interior renovations for our clients. Oftentimes, we come across clients who have removed some wallpaper or wainscoting, or recently relocated a door or a window, and need wall retexturing services.

If you don’t know exactly how you’re going to get that flat, unadorned piece of drywall to blend in with the texture on the rest of your home’s interior, you’ll need a retexturing treatment.

Tools You’ll Need for Wall Retexturing

If you’re considering tackling this project on your own, there are a number of tools you’ll need to get the job done.

In order to properly retexture your wall, you’ll need drywall mud – and lots of it. You’ll mix this compound up until you reach the right consistency, it should feel like cake batter. If there are any puncture marks, holes, dips, or other imperfections in the wall, you’ll want to even those out with the compound and a putty knife.

In total, you’ll need about 8 tools:

  • Drywall mud
  • Work cloths
  • Drill and mixing attachment
  • Trowel
  • Putty knife
  • Painter’s tape
  • Paint roller
  • Texture brush

DIY Wall Retexture or Hire a Pro

If you’re a DIY fan and want to tackle this project yourself, more power to you! However, depending on the size of your home, this project could take a long time, not to mention the cost of the supplies to get the job done. Depending on whether you’re creating a smooth, flat finish, or adding texture to a wall for design aesthetic. It definitely requires finesse and patience to master the technique it takes to create a perfectly smooth wall.

Drywall work can get really messy. Professionals know to cover the floors, mask everything off and contain the dust. The pros will also have all the equipment for taping and mudding. Balancing time against money is always a factor when deciding whether to do something yourself or hire a professional. This is a time that we strongly suggest hiring a professional, as this is not an easy job to take on on your own.
